Philadelphia Union Announce Youth Affiliation with Nitro Soccer Club

Nitro SC join the Union Club Affiliate Program

CHESTER, Pa. (October 14th, 2021) - Philadelphia Union and Nitro Soccer Club announce today a youth affiliation to aid in the development of the players as both athletes and community members.

The partnership between the Union and Nitro SC will bring new opportunities to the players of Nitro.  The Club Affiliate Program will expand Nitro SC’s Player Development Pathway and will create a direct talent ID pipeline to Philadelphia Union Youth teams and programming. 

The Union and Nitro SC will work cooperatively to offer club development programs, specialized positional training, access to European event competitions, Union Select team opportunities, and invitations to elite programs. 

The Union and Nitro SC will also team up to provide coaching education, coach workshops, session planning preparation, and club coaching methodology alignment.

Thiago Evangelista Joins Union Youth Coaching Staff

The Philadelphia Union Youth are pleased to announce the hiring of Thiago Evangelista to the position of Senior Staff Coach.  Evangelista, brings a wealth of knowledge and soccer experience to the Union Youth coaching staff that will transfer onto the soccer fields in the area.  

"This is a wonderful hire for our growing Youth department. Thiago is one of the top youth coaches in the region and very well thought of by the Union Youth management, his peers and the players he has had the opportunity to coach within our programs." Said David Pettican, General Manager for Union Youth. 

"He has been closely monitored and evaluated for the past year by our Technical Director Anthony Flores who confirmed that he fits the profile perfectly.  We have no doubt he will wear the badge with pride, enthusiasm and dedication and he thoroughly deserves this opportunity to keep growing as a coach.  Thiago is not afraid to push the limits and is a true student of the beautiful game. Falls SC is next to Join the Union Affiliate Program!

The partnership between the Union and Falls SC will bring new opportunities to the area.  The Club Affiliate Program will expand Falls SC’s Player Development Pathway and will create a direct talent ID pipeline for Philadelphia Union Youth teams and programming.

GCU Soccer Club joins the Union Club Affiliate Program

CHESTER, Pa. (June 3rd, 2021) - Philadelphia Union and Gloucester County Union announce today a youth affiliation to aid in the development of the players as both athletes and community members. GCUSC is the 19th club to partner with the Union Club Affiliate Program.

The partnership between the Union and GCUSC will bring new opportunities to the players of GCUSC.  The Club Affiliate Program will expand GCUSC’s Player Development Pathway and will create a direct talent ID pipeline to Philadelphia Union Youth teams and programming. 

The Union and GCUSC will work cooperatively to offer club development programs, specialized positional training, access to European event competitions, Union Select team opportunities, and invitations to elite programs.

Philadelphia Union Youth welcome Phil Griffiths!

When you are driven by passion, a 20-year career feels like no time at all. 

Phil Griffiths, Philadelphia Union’s new Youth Director of Coaching, started coaching as a 18-year old in Reading – England, not Pennsylvania – working part time in Reading FC’s Community Trust whilst also working part time in a sports store before being offered a full time position within the Trust. He immediately knew his future lay with the sport he loved and after stints with Reading FC and recently Penn Fusion, Griffiths has reached his dream of working with a MLS club to develop a new generation of young talent. 

“Phil brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our Youth Department and will be an excellent addition to our Professional staff,” Union Youth General Manager David Pettican said. “In his role as Union Youth Director of Coaching he will be responsible for overseeing many key areas such as our MLS affiliation program, coach education and the highly acclaimed Player Pathway Program (PPP). He will work closely with our Technical Director Anthony Flores to continue to deliver the nationally renowned Union Academy curriculum to the youth soccer community in our region.
